POS system for Kenyan shops, from a duka to a supermarket
Kenyan businesses sell with M-Pesa first, cash second and credit (madeni) for regular customers. Afritelligence records all three on the same sale: type the M-Pesa code, split the rest in cash, or put the balance on the customer's account with a limit. At closing you see what came in by M-Pesa, cash and card, what was sold and the profit.
It runs in the browser on the phone, tablet or laptop you already have — no POS machine to buy — and works for a duka in an estate, a mini-mart in Thika, a hardware in Nakuru, an agrovet in Eldoret or a chemist in Mombasa. Add a barcode scanner and a receipt printer when you are ready.
- ✓M-Pesa code on every sale, with split payments
- ✓Customer credit (madeni) with limits and statements
- ✓KRA PIN and VAT at 16% on receipts; exempt items handled
- ✓Stock that goes down with each sale and up with each delivery
- ✓Daily sales, profit and payment method reports
- ✓Several branches and staff roles on one login
What is a POS system?
A POS (point of sale) system is where a business records each sale: what was sold, the price, the tax and how the customer paid. A good one also keeps stock up to date, remembers customers and who owes what, and adds up the day for you.
Afritelligence is a POS system for businesses in Kenya. It runs in a browser on a phone, tablet or computer — no machine to buy — and records M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Card and cash in Kenyan Shilling (KES), with your KRA PIN on every receipt.
Who uses a POS system?
Shops, chemists, hardware stores, agrovets, boutiques, electronics and furniture shops, salons and service businesses in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret and Thika all use a POS system to replace the receipt book and the end-of-day calculator.
- ✓Mini-marts and supermarkets
- ✓Hardware shops and building suppliers
- ✓Chemists, agrovets and boutiques
- ✓Salons, car washes and service businesses

How a day with a POS works
The cashier scans or searches each item, takes payment by M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Card or cash and prints or shares the receipt. Stock is reduced automatically. If the customer pays later, the sale goes on their account.
At closing, the owner sees sales, profit and what came in by each payment method — from the shop or from anywhere.
What a POS system replaces
The receipt book, the stock book and the calculator. Because every sale is recorded once, stock, profit and debts are always up to date, and staff mistakes or theft show up the same day.
How to choose a POS system
Check that the POS system you choose can:

- ✓Put your KRA PIN and VAT on receipts
- ✓Track stock and alert you when it's low
- ✓Handle customer credit
- ✓Limit what each staff member can do
- ✓Work on the devices you already have
